Experts Offer Their Tips for Effective Employee Communication. By Sheryl Weinstein. Most physicians know that using effective employee communication techniques will keep their offices running smoothly, efficiently and profitably. What they don’t always know is how to do that.. "You don't have to be a born communicator to speak and deal with people better," says Jeffrey Kahn, MD, a psychiatrist in New York City and Westchester County specializing in career and organizational issues. "You can re-engineer your communication skills.". The road to success includes being open with employees, respecting their opinions and listening to them. What follows are more suggestions from Kahn and others.. Share information often and equally. "You don't want to tell people everything about your business. But the more information you can share about the way the practice operates, the more they will feel part of your team," says Kahn. The caveat: Always tell everyone the same thing. The reverse not only starts rumors, but sharing information unequally leaves people feeling left out of the information loop.. Hold informal meetings. "It can be as simple as treating everyone to pizza on Wednesdays, then conducting a brief office meeting," says Kahn. Later on, such meetings can be invaluable in helping settle a problem in an open, familiar, and trusted arena.. ...
