Education: Undergraduate, Widener College; George Washington University, MBA Bridging the Gap From Medicine to MBA. PPD: What is the most difficult issue facing physician executives today?. Schenke: Anger and fear among their colleagues who resent the fact that the contract has changed. Doctors are sitting around saying, 'Wait a minute, this isn't fair. This isn't what I signed up to do.' They didn't know they'd be held to the levels of accountability they're now being asked to meet. The contract kind of implied that the financial rewards would be there for the long-term, and physicians see those shrinking. Now they're seeing alternative medicine come into play and that was never part of the deal.. So all of the behaviors that you would expect from anger, fear, and resentment get played out.
