Business sidelines don't turn out much better than they have for Robert Cade, MD. In 1965, he invented Gatorade to save the University of Florida's beloved football team from heat exhaustion. More doctors than ever are adding sideline services and complementary commercial products to their practices in an effort to boost declining revenues. Take, for instance, the anesthesiologist who opens a pain center, the family practitioner who hires a nutritionist, the plastic surgeon who markets his own skincare line or an obstetrician/gynecologist who sells vitamins. .
