THE VITALS Not every diet book authored by a physician will enjoy the chart-topping success of Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution or Sugar Busters! But that hasn’t stopped the many doctors who have followed in their footsteps. If fame and fortune is the goal, though, would-be authors may be sorely disappointed, say their already-published colleagues. All of the physicians interviewed for this article say their inspiration was creating a diet that worked either for themselves or a patient, and feeling compelled to spread the word to others.
